If you've searched for "Kimberley tip" or "Eastwood tip", this is the one. Neither town has a council recycling centre, but Giltbrook, on Gilt Hill between them, serves both. It is a Nottinghamshire County Council site, one of 12 across the county, and it follows the same rules and hours as the rest.
Giltbrook tip opening times
The gates open at 8am every day of the year bar three. What changes is the closing time, which follows the clocks and the seasons.
| Months | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| January and February | 8am | 4pm |
| March | 8am | 6pm |
| April to September | 8am | 8pm |
| October | 8am | 6pm |
| November and December | 8am | 4pm |
With winter hours starting in November, 4pm comes round fast. After work is too late for most of the winter, so plan weekday trips for a lunch break or go at the weekend, and leave time to unload before the gates shut.
Registering your vehicle
The tip won't let an unregistered vehicle in, because staff scan numberplates on arrival. It's free and done online:
- Make an account on the county council's recycling centre page.
- Enter your numberplate on the form. Two vehicles per household are allowed.
- Go. No permit comes in the post, and the registration works at every county tip.
No internet? Phone 0300 500 80 80. If you change your car, redo the form.

Giltbrook takes household waste from people who live in Nottinghamshire, outside Nottingham City, and who produced the waste themselves. That rules out:
- Nottingham City residents. Use the Redfield Road tip in Lenton.
- Landlords clearing a rented house or flat. The council counts that as trade waste.
- Anyone with waste from paid work, such as a builder's rubble. See builders' waste removal.
- Man and van firms and businesses, even with household waste on board. A business needs a commercial waste collection.
Vans and trailers
A car, minibus, van, pick-up, campervan or motorbike can all go in once registered. A trailer is fine behind a car or minibus up to 3m by 2m, but not behind a van or pick-up. Borrowing or hiring a van? Ask the council for temporary access before you go and keep the hire paperwork on you.
The big change is on 2 January 2027. The county council has announced that every van will then need an online appointment, with a limit of six visits a year, and Luton vans, box vans, flatbeds and anything over 3.5 tonnes will be banned. Each tip will take vans on a rota, so on some days your nearest tip won't be the one open to vans. Cars aren't affected. If you rely on a van for clear-outs, ask yourself now whether a collection is simpler.
What to take and what to leave
Giltbrook takes the usual household items: furniture, mattresses, appliances, garden waste, scrap metal, cardboard, glass, textiles, batteries and small amounts of paint. A few things come with rules:
- Fridges and freezers must be empty and complete.
- DIY waste such as rubble, plasterboard and timber is capped: two 50-litre bags a visit (or one sheet of plasterboard), and no more than four visits per household in any four weeks.
- Carpet is limited to one room's worth a visit.
- Small electricals were not being accepted at county tips as of September 2026, so check the council site first.
Never taken: asbestos, tyres, car parts (apart from oil and standard batteries), healthcare waste, nappies, animal waste and trade waste. Our Calverton tip guide has the full item-by-item table, and the council keeps the official list.
If you live in Kimberley or Eastwood
Both towns are in Broxtowe borough, so there are two councils involved: the county runs the tip, and Broxtowe Borough Council runs bin and bulky collections. That matters because you have a cheap option that doesn't need a car:
- Broxtowe bulky collection: a £13 booking fee plus £11 an item, so £24 for one sofa, booked online and left outside. See our council bulky collection guide.
- Fridge freezers: Broxtowe was still collecting clean, empty ones in September 2026 (about £24), when some other councils had paused them. See fridge freezer disposal.
- Giltbrook itself: free, if you have the vehicle and can lift it.
The council route is cheapest but you wait for a slot and can't pick a time. If you need it gone this week, or it's upstairs, a private collection is the quicker option.
Get it collected instead
Fill in the form or call 07348 454816. We pass your details to up to three licensed companies covering Kimberley, Eastwood and NG16, and they quote you.
Only use a registered waste carrier
Your waste is your responsibility until it's disposed of properly. If you hand it to an unregistered carrier and it's later fly-tipped, you can be fined. Before anyone takes your waste, check them on the Environment Agency register and get a receipt. More in our fly-tipping guide.
Bigger jobs go through the same form: a house clearance, a builders' waste job, a garden clear-out, or a skip.
