Newark Recycling Centre on Brunel Drive, Newark is the Nottinghamshire County Council tip for Newark-on-Trent, Balderton and the surrounding villages. If you've searched for "newark tip" or "newark recycling centre", this is the site. It's one of 12 recycling centres the county runs, and it follows the same registration rules and seasonal hours as the rest.
Newark sits out to the east of the county, a fair drive from the next tip, so the Brunel Drive site is really the only practical option for Newark-on-Trent, Balderton and the surrounding villages. That distance makes it worth getting the trip right first time and checking what's accepted before you load up. There's a Community RePaint point here for usable leftover paint. Bins and bulky collections are run by Newark and Sherwood District Council.Clearing a whole house in Newark?
It's usually far more than a few tip runs, especially with vans needing a booked slot from 2 January 2027. See our house clearance guide for costs and free quotes from licensed local companies.
Newark tip opening times
Every day it opens at 8am, and shuts earlier in winter than in summer. The only days it's shut are 25 December, 26 December and 1 January.
| Months | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| January and February | 8am | 4pm |
| March | 8am | 6pm |
| April to September | 8am | 8pm |
| October | 8am | 6pm |
| November and December | 8am | 4pm |
In winter it's shut by 4pm, so an after-work run rarely works between November and February; give yourself time to unload.

Get free quotes →Registering your vehicle
You can't just turn up — staff scan numberplates, so register your vehicle first. It's free on the county council recycling centre page, or by phone on 0300 500 80 80, and the same registration works at every county tip. You can register two vehicles, and vans need extra steps — from 2 January 2027 every van must book a slot. The Calverton guide has the full van rules, which apply here too.
What you can take
This site takes the usual household range: furniture, mattresses, appliances, garden waste, metal, cardboard, glass, textiles, batteries and small amounts of DIY waste. The DIY limit is two 50-litre bags per visit, with no more than four visits in any four weeks, and asbestos, tyres and trade waste are never accepted. The full item-by-item list is in our Calverton tip guide, and the council keeps the official list.
Worth knowing for Newark:
- Usable paint. Newark has a Community RePaint point, where leftover paint in its original tin is passed on for reuse rather than thrown away.
If you'd rather not go
If it's just a couple of bulky bits, driving them over may not be worth the time and diesel. You have two routes:
- Newark and Sherwood District Council bulky collection. A paid collection you book online, charged per item, left out for the crew. See our council bulky collection guide.
- A licensed private collection. A crew comes to your door, carries things out and takes the lot in one go, often within a day or two. It costs more than the council but suits anything heavy, upstairs or urgent.

Only use a registered waste carrier
Your waste is your responsibility until it's disposed of properly. If you hand it to an unregistered carrier and it's later fly-tipped, you can be fined. Before anyone takes your waste, check them on the Environment Agency register and get a receipt. More in our fly-tipping guide.
Larger jobs go through the same form: a house clearance, a garden clear-out, builders' waste or a skip.
